David Adamthwaite
David is a registered Australian patent attorney and with over 15 years experience in the patent profession, brings a wealth of experience to his practice. He is also a registered New Zealand patent attorney.
David has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Newcastle with majors in biology and chemistry, and obtained First Class Honours from the University of New South Wales for a project in the field of immunology. He also has several years of medical research experience gained in hospital research laboratories in Sydney and London.
Prior to his university studies David qualified as an electrical fitter mechanic over a four year period in the heavy industry environment of a major Australian steelworks where he gained hands on experience in many of the service shops and production mills, providing David with the rare combination of a strong life sciences and mechanical technical background.
David has considerable experience in the drafting of patent specifications in the life and physical sciences fields, and the filing and prosecution of patent applications in Australia and in jurisdictions around the world. He has handled patent matters for major Australian and multinational companies, has acted in patent opposition matters including the high profile BRCA2 Australian breast cancer gene patent opposition matter on behalf of Myriad Genetics, and provides patent infringement and due diligence advice.
Most recently, David provided patent due diligence advice to Medical Therapies Limited for a public equity raising by that company in relation to life sciences technologies developed at the University of Sydney. He also advises clients on patenting strategies and has lectured to students on intellectual property at several universities over a number of years.
David’s experience and technical background makes him well placed to provide high level service and advice to clients in complex patent matters over a range of technologies.
